When I was a kid, I was constantly told I couldn't have the latest and greatest gadget because “it's too expensive.” My mother's go-to line? “For THAT price, it better make my breakfast!”
Of course, trying to get a Super NES to do anything other than play video games is next to impossible when you're 8 years old with zero coding experience. But that anecdote stuck with me.
Fast forward. We're deep into building BuddyBots — dinosaur robots for kids — and we realize we need a home automation orchestrator. Something that could act as a hub for all the different tasks we want BuddyBots to handle.
That's when E.A. — A.D.'s twin brother — was playing around with paper boxes he'd decorated in class. The idea hit both of us at the same time.
But E.A. took it further: What if it wasn't just a hub, but a home assistant with a face? A stand-alone system that could coordinate with different smart peripherals around the home?
Before I could even say “go,” he started drawing different faces.
And Qubo was born.
